Monthly Ocean Science Roundup – January 2020

Date: 31st January 2020

This issue explores:

  • Mobile Protected Areas for Biodiversity on the High Seas
  • Oxygen Deoxygenation: Everyone’s Problem – Causes, Impacts, Consequences and Solutions
  • Record-Setting Ocean Warmth Continued in 2019

Welcome to the January 2020 issue of the OneOcean Mailout. Every month Communications Inc undertakes a critical review of recently published scientific literature from peer reviewed journals. This month, we’re bringing you four recent publications around topics such as mobile Marine Protected Areas, ocean deoxygenation, ocean warming, and the ocean-climate nexus.

The ocean covers over 70% of the surface of our planet and is a vital component of the planet’s climate system, continuously exchanging large quantities of heat, gases and water with the atmosphere. Without the ocean, our climate would be vastly different to what it is today!

With so many crucial moments coming up this year in the ocean calendar, 2020 is being heralded by many as the ‘ocean super year’ – a new and crucial chapter of opportunities for global ocean action.

It’s time that the ocean’s essential services were reflected at a global level and with an acute awareness of solutions necessary to preserve the role of the ocean in mitigation and other services.

*Communications Inc will be sharing this newsletter on a monthly basis. Please see the link at the bottom if you would like to stop receiving these emails.*
