Analysis

Effective communications are fundamental to achieving ocean change and this can be greatly enhanced through research. As the COVID-19 pandemic has shown, the communications landscape can change quickly, and we need to be able to shift our approach to meet evolving challenges.

The OneOcean briefing is a regular report that analyses discourse of the ocean in online international English-language media and on social media. Depending on the news landscape, we shift the data-gathering focus to examine the intersection of the ocean with other key issues, for example the climate, biodiversity, the environment and COVID-19. Occasionally we produce ad hoc reports around specific issues, for example on ocean equity and justice.

In addition to the media analysis, we provide OneOcean Flotilla members with specific communications recommendations based on the report findings. For more information or to sign up to the OneOcean Flotilla, click here.
