Monthly Ocean Science Roundup – October 2023

Date: 31st October 2023

Welcome to the October 2023 issue of the OneOcean Science Mailout.

In this edition we present three new papers on the theme of Antarctica during the current Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) meeting in Hobart, Tasmania (16-27 October). These are focused on:

  • The influence of Antarctic governance on marine protected areas in the High Seas Treaty negotiations.
  • The drivers of record low Antarctic sea ice coverage in recent years and what it means for our planet.
  • How the availability of iron and manganese influences phytoplankton communities in the Antarctic and the resultant impacts on carbon cycling in the Southern Ocean.
